Sermon Series: Almost True

Week 2: You do You

Discussion Questions for Small Groups or Individual Study

1. Read Proverbs 14:12. Who has an interest in your conformity to the world? What “seems right” to man? Contrast this with the transformation described in Romans 12:2. What is the renewing of your mind? How is this accomplished? What is the fruit of transformation?

2. What does God say about you? Read Psalm 139:13-16. What would it mean to walk in the truth that you were made with intention? How can this truth help you to embrace what God has designed for you?

3. Look at Ephesians 2:10 and Matthew 5:14-16. Describe who you have been created to be. What is your identity? Why did He create you? How are you living out your identity as an intentionally-created son or daughter? How has God poured His craftsmanship into you?

4. Read Jeremiah 1:4-10. Let’s break this passage up.
a. Focus on verses 4-5. How is the Lord speaking identity over Jeremiah? What is Jeremiah’s identity, based on these verses? How does He speak identity over you?
b. Continue with verse 6. What is Jeremiah’s response to the Lord? Why did he attempt to disqualify himself? How have you tried to disqualify yourself when the Lord calls?
c. Read verses 7-8. How does the Lord respond? Do promises like that extend to us, today? How do you know?
d. Finish by reading verses 9-10. What did the Lord do after confronting Jeremiah’s self-perception? What did Jeremiah have to abandon to move forward into God’s will for his life?

5. How has God interrupted the plans you had/have for your life? What is He calling you into, in your home, our community, and in our church? What are you waiting for?
